The GFWC La Crescenta Woman’s Club gives out thousands of dollars in scholarships every year. Funds that we raise during the year are given away in scholarships and to local philanthropies. Serving on the Scholarship Committee is a rewarding job for clubmembers. Reviewing scholarship folders of some of the leaders of our next generation is heartwarming and inspiring. To be able to award funds to help further their educations is wonderful.
Each year, all of our scholarship winners are amazing young people. It is a pleasure to hear about their future plans and get to know each one of them.
Our Scholarship Committee meet, plan, and visit the local high schools, interview applicants & go over Scholarship Application forms, which are revised each year.
The Committee selects students to receive their scholarships, notifies them by letter, and they are invited to our Clubhouse to be recognized. Chosen candidates will be recognized at our student recognition luncheon usually held in April. Actual award is delivered upon student’s entry into an academic institution of higher learning.
Our Ruberta Kurtz Scholarship recipient usually either performs, shares their art or plays his/her instrument for those in attendance. Ruberta Kurtz was a long time member of our Club, and upon her passing, she left us an Endowment Fund, which is used to grant a Scholarship each year to a deserving graduating high school senior majoring in the Arts, such as theatre, music, art, photography, computer graphic arts & design, etc. Each year, we honor her wishes.
The Richard Huntwork scholarship is for those students majoring in an area of engineering or mathematics.
We also donate to the San Gabriel Valley District each year, to support the District’s Scholarship Fund.
Our Gallery of photos includes some of our Zoom meeting photos due to the pandemic and not being able to meet with all our recipients in person.
We are so proud of all the scholarship Recipients!
Download and print the Scholarship form you want to apply for and fill it out and return to La Crescenta Woman’s Club.
