The GFWC La Crescenta Woman’s Club gives out thousands of dollars in scholarships every year. Funds that we raise during the year are given away in scholarships and to local philanthropies. Serving on the Scholarship Committee is a rewarding job for clubwomen. Reviewing scholarship folders of some of the leaders of our next generation is heartwarming and inspiring. To be able to award funds to help further their educations is wonderful.
Each year, all of our scholarship winners are amazing young people. It is a pleasure to hear about their future plans and get to know each one of them.
Our Scholarship Committee meet, plan, and visit the local high schools, interview applicants & go over Scholarship Application forms, which are revised each year.
The Committee selects students to receive their scholarships, notifies them by letter, and they are invited to our Clubhouse to be recognized. They receive their award at our Student Recognition Luncheon held usually in April and share their future goals.
Our Roberta Kurtz Scholarship recipient usually plays his/her instrument for those in attendance. Roberta Kurtz was a long time member of our Club, and upon her passing, she left us an Endowment Fund, which is used to grant a Scholarship each year to a deserving graduating high school senior majoring in the Arts, such as theater, music, painting, film making, etc. Each year, we honor her wishes.
The Richard Huntwork scholarship is for those students majoring in an area of engineering or mathematics.
We also donate to the San Gabriel Valley District each year, to support the District’s Scholarship Fund.,
Download and print the Scholarship form you want to apply for and fill it out and return to La Crescenta.
